Chicago Fire Shockwave: Taylor Kinney Reportedly Will Not Return for the New Season
Panic is spreading across the One Chicago fandom after explosive new rumors claimed that Taylor Kinney may not return for the upcoming season of Chicago Fire.
The shocking speculation began after several fan accounts and entertainment insiders started questioning the future of Kelly Severide following the dramatic Season 14 finale cliffhanger. With Firehouse 51 left in chaos after a devastating explosion, many viewers immediately feared the worst for one of the show’s most iconic characters.
Fans quickly flooded social media with emotional reactions.
“If Severide leaves, Chicago Fire will never be the same,” one viewer wrote. Another fan posted, “Taylor Kinney IS Chicago Fire. I can’t imagine Firehouse 51 without him.”
The rumors intensified after behind-the-scenes reports suggested major cast shakeups could be coming as NBC prepares the next era of the long-running firefighter drama. Some online reports even claimed Kinney was preparing to step away entirely after more than a decade leading the series.
However, more reliable entertainment outlets are reporting the opposite.
According to recent reports from Deadline and multiple One Chicago news sources, Taylor Kinney has reportedly signed a new deal to continue with the franchise for the 2026–2027 television season.
That news has given many fans hope that Kelly Severide will survive the explosive finale and remain at Firehouse 51 for Season 15.
Still, uncertainty remains because the Season 14 finale intentionally placed several major characters in life-threatening danger. The final moments showed Severide trapped during a catastrophic fire while chaos erupted around the team.
Some viewers believe the writers could still reduce Severide’s role even if Kinney technically returns. Others fear the show may be preparing a storyline that moves the character away from Firehouse 51 permanently, especially after recent discussions about promotions and leadership opportunities within the Office of Fire Investigation.
Longtime fans know these fears are not unfounded. Chicago Fire has a long history of devastating departures, including the exits of Matt Casey, Sylvie Brett, and the heartbreaking death of Brian ‘Otis’ Zvonecek.
For now, NBC has not announced any official departure for Kinney. In fact, current industry reporting strongly suggests he is expected to return next season.
But until fans finally see Kelly Severide walk safely back into Firehouse 51, anxiety surrounding the future of the beloved firefighter is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
