Renewed, Canceled, Ending Soon: CBS Delivers Its Biggest TV Update of 2026
The biggest relief for viewers is that FBI officially survived another renewal cycle, securing its future as one of CBS’s flagship dramas. Despite major changes happening around the franchise, the original series continues to dominate ratings and remains one of the network’s strongest performers.
But the FBI universe itself is still going through massive restructuring.
Following earlier decisions to cancel FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, CBS is now focusing heavily on rebuilding the franchise through newer expansion projects, including the highly anticipated CIA spin-off. While network executives see the move as a long-term strategy, many longtime fans remain frustrated that two established series were sacrificed during the process.
And FBI is far from the only franchise affected.
CBS also renewed major hits like Fire Country, Tracker, NCIS, Ghosts, Elsbeth, Matlock, and Sheriff Country, confirming the network’s continued focus on large interconnected universes and reliable procedural dramas. At the same time, several shows failed to survive the brutal 2026 lineup overhaul.
Among the biggest casualties are Watson and DMV, both officially canceled despite vocal fan support online. Meanwhile, longtime comedy favorite The Neighborhood is preparing to end its run, bringing another emotional farewell to CBS viewers.
Industry insiders say the network is aggressively reshaping its identity around fewer but larger franchises capable of generating spin-offs, crossover events, and multi-season stability. That strategy may explain why newer expansion projects are now receiving priority over several older fan-favorite series.
For FBI fans, however, the latest update feels deeply personal.
The franchise has already experienced emotional cast rumors, uncertainty surrounding character futures, and growing fears about additional departures following the end of multiple spin-offs. With actors like Zeeko Zaki and Missy Peregrym recently fueling speculation online, many viewers now feel the FBI universe is standing at a critical turning point.
CBS may have renewed the flagship series, but the future still feels unpredictable.
One thing is certain after this massive 2026 announcement: no show — no matter how popular — is completely safe anymore.
